Back in Oz and since landing I have bought a mountain bike, joined a gym, and climbed the highest mountain in the region. Ha ha ha!! Nothing like a bit of external motivation to kick your goals into action.
I realised early on in my working life that I much prefer to work in groups to do things that require me to be accountable. At least one other person to show up, do the thing, then we can socialise. Win. Hence me stepping into the conversation of blogging about this adventure with M-J. How fun to have a ‘reason’ to be in consistent communication, buy tech gear (yay outdoor stores!), get outside to “practice” walking in nature, with the whole thing being documented. Writing is something I like to do, but now I feel like there is more momentum available as there are TWO of us putting this together. It worked for us running 42.2km, why not an overland adventure in Chile?
I spend a bit of time working with students putting plans in place to balance work, study, and life. It’s always amazing to me to watch their faces change as they see how much time is available when you plot it out. Then the onus to do the work and show up to the plan is placed squarely back into their court with some sideline cheering courtesy of yours truly. By extension, this has been something rolling around in the back of my mind also – finding time. Mostly to write. I’m pretty good at showing up and having the adventure 🙂
In the same way showing up at the gym/the crag/the trail head is the starting point on the pathway to elevated spirits, improved self-efficacy and confidence – so to is writing about it. I’m really looking forward to having this be the living reflection of our journey.
I’m really excited for you to join us!
Happy Wandering! – Hx
